The Hip Hop band for Jesus is a group of young gospel artists whose musical career began from the RD Congo in South Kivu province in Bukavu. The band recorded several religious songs, one song among their song was critical to the government of the former president of the Rdcongo Joseph Kabila and these young artists were chased by intelligence agents around the years 2016.
The group arrived in Tanzania in the Nyarugusu camps after being arrested for a year for Tanzanian migration. Tanzanian police in Kigoma said the young artists appeared to be politicians or soldiers because they doubted passports of artists and fashion clothes that kept in their suitcases. After 12 months in prison and a few days, the police discovered that they were innocent and that they had no knowledge of political issues, they were just artists.
Despite the release of 4 young artists from the group Hip hop for Jesus, their lives in the camps of Nyarugusu were not favorable because they were under surveillance. After a few months in Nyarugusu the 3 artists, Sonpere, Benito and Samuel fled the camp in Burundi. Samuel returned to Congo and the two Sonpere and Benito brothers continued their journey to Uganda. Chris Murega stayed alone in his group here at camp.
Chris Murega continues his career here in the camps to raise awareness among some young artists to form the hip hop group for Jesus in Tanzania. He sang at several ceremonies held here at the camp and he continues to work on his music to live their dreams. There are talented artists in Nyarugusu who think they can do better, but Nyarugusu is smaller to fulfill artists' dreams.
