During this confinement period in Nyarugusu, the price went up from 15,000 shillings to 18,000 shillings for the 5 liters of peanut oil. Buyers of peanut oil are still forced to buy to prepare bread, pancakes and cakes. A trader explained to us that "At the rise in the price of flour or oil on the market, we are losing customers of our cake because we have to decrease the quantity of pieces to recover the loss of oil".
The peanut oil supplier has explained the cause of the higher prices on the market: "The peanut oil has become rarer to find and that is why the this oil has become more expensive than before. The way to bring peanut oil to the camp is now difficult."
Among the food that refugees receive at WFP (World Food Program) there is also some quantity of oil per person on the tokens, which they buys peanut oil from Tanzanian traders and it is the refugees who do their business at the camp. They all need it for palm oil because they only get peanut oil in WFP.
